Sowing Date Mapping
Mapping Grain Crop Start of Season in Smallholder Farming Systems Using Optical Imagery
This research develops methods to accurately estimate crop sowing dates in smallholder farming systems across South Asia and Latin America using satellite remote sensing. By detecting the Start of Season (SoS) from optical imagery time series, we provide critical insights into farmer management practices and climate adaptation.
The methodology uses NDVI time series from optical satellite data to detect inflection points that indicate the beginning of crop growth, validated against ground-truth fieldwork data.
